'tis that season & my cat needs OA

The holiday spirit can be tough to come by.

Or maybe this is the holiday spirit.

And we're trying to eat our way out of the shame.

Welcome to my mid-life crisis, part deux

Yeah, that's a deer in headlights....

Food photography is hard

But I was so proud of this delicious snack--blackberries dipped in Jacques Torres hot chocolate, courtesy of Deb, enjoyed to the soundtrack of Vince Guraldi--that I had to snap it.

So much for getting out of my apartment. But hey, we are coming up to the shortest day of the year. I am so ready for more light!

The 'They Should Be Way More Interesting' award goes to...

The people who live in this loft

OK, maybe that's unfair

Maybe it's just their friends

But I felt like I was in Doha again...

So we talked amongst ourselves.

Wished we lived there...

And almost missed the fact that the owners of the apartment were rare book dealers...

We went to the Richard Prince show at the Guggenheim, "Spiritiual America," then strolled on down Fifth Ave toward Rockefeller Center. Not in order...

I shoulda known yesterday was gonna suck

But it's not every day you see such a clear portent.

And in fact, the day did not suck. As far as what actually happened, it rocked out--I may well have picked up two new gigs thank god.

It was the other, slightly subtler portent that bespeaks the day's emotional note.

I don't think that requires any more explanation.

Me 'n Gabe

At the Moth's curated show last night, the evening's theme was Time. It should have been Death. My God, what was in the air? Just trying to get in was a near-death experience as I had to face off an old man who kept insisting I needed to remove my coat before entering the dining room downstairs, unlike the saloons I might be used to frequenting. Thankfully I was not going to the restaurant downstairs. I was going to Gabe...

He was there!!! Did he sit near me on purpose? Thank God for my Cyrano, Amelia.

"Should I talk to him?"

"Yes!"

"About what?"

"Say you liked his story from the Ball."

"Right. Good. What was his story?"

"You're kidding me..."

"No, seriously. Could not hear a fucking thing. What. WHAT? Quickly!"

"He talked about the old man in his village...."

She went on but I was ready for her to stop. That was enough. When she did finish I did a perfect seated spinal twist. OK, maybe he was not that near me.

"Hey, really enjoyed your story the other night. Thanks." Smiles.

"Oh, I must be gettin' Alzheimer's," he said. REALLY, Gabriel Byrne talks JUST LIKE THE REST OF US! "What'd I say?"

"The old man," I prompted. "In the village."

You may have noticed, none of these people is Gabriel Byrne. That's because, seeing as how we're such great friends now, well, I don't need a picture to prove it.

First snow Sunday

Ah, my first winter on the northeastern seaboard in 3 years.
This was the view outside my window.
